FERRIGNO, LEAL, KUPRIJ ‘PROMISED LAND’ (LION MUSIC/BERTUS)

Keyboardplayer Vitalij Kuprij (ARTENSION), guitarist Marco Ferrigno and guitarist Javier Leal have joined forces and recorded an album together. The title of the album is ‘Promised land’ and like one would expect this is an instrumental record, and of a very high level. The 8 songs on the CD are superb high quality instrumental Prog Metal with beautiful melodies by the keyboards and guitars, not unlike the best instrumental passages of DREAM THEATER. Just listen to songs like “Promised land”, “The prisoner” and “Eternal” and you’ll understand why this is one of the strongest instrumental releases from the past few years.

Numerous honours in the former USSR and Switzerland. Study of the piano at Kiev’s Mykola Lyssenko Music Academy for Highly Talented Students, at the Basel Conservatoire and at the prestigeous Curtis Institute of Music. A very impressive portfolio. You see, Vitali Kuprij is one of the best keyboard players in today’s metal genre. He formed his first band back in 1993, aged 16, while he studied in Basel, with guitar player Roger Staffelbach. After these studies, he’s been much demand as a soloist, recitalist and as a chamber musician in the USA and Europe. He produced together with guitarists Javier Leal and Marco Ferrigno the album PROMISED LAND that really convinces. Classical music and sphaeric sounds meet rock and hard riffs. The album could be classified something between Yngwie Malmsteen (Pattern of all of the three musicians) and Dream Theater. There’s not much I can say about the different tracks. It’s a CD that you put in the player and listen to the whole thing. It starts "easier" and finishes with the strong final THE PROPHECY. Vitalij Kuprij is considered being one of the best keyboard players in the
metal genre today, known from Artension and Ring of Fire. His new project
is an instrumental neo-classical collaboration with the two guitarists
Marco Ferrigno and Javier Leal. The music ranges from instrumental neo-
classical hard rock á la Yngwie Malmsteen to progressive metal á la Dream
Theater. The music on their debut album "Promised Land" is challenging;
complex and extremely well played. I really love this album, and it's nice
to hear that Lion Music have released three really strong albums recently:
Reign Of Terror "Conquer & Divide", Mattsson "Power Games" and now Ferrigno
- Leal - Kuprij's "Promised Land".
